Missed call text back

Missed call text back and lead follow-up, done properly.

When you are on a roof, with a client or driving, the phone rings out and the caller rings the next business. Missed call text back sends them a text within seconds with a way to book, and follow-up keeps the conversation alive until someone can call back.

What is missed call text back?

Missed call text back is an automatic text sent to anyone whose call to your business goes unanswered. It tells them you saw the call, when you will ring back and how to book or reply now. The caller gets an answer in seconds instead of voicemail, and the enquiry is recorded in your CRM.

Voicemail asks the caller to do the work. A text answers them, gives them a way to book and keeps the enquiry with you.

How does missed call text back work?

Your business number is connected to the CRM. When a call is missed, the system sends a text from your business, creates or updates the contact, logs the missed call and alerts your team. If the caller replies or books, the conversation continues in the same inbox as your calls, email and chat.

  1. Call comes inYour team is busy, so it rings out.
  2. Text goes outWithin seconds, from your business, with a booking link.
  3. Enquiry is recordedThe contact and missed call appear in the CRM.
  4. Follow-up runsIf there is no reply, a scheduled follow-up checks in.
  5. Your team calls backWith the history in front of them.

Does a missed call text need to follow the Spam Act?

A reply that only says you missed the call and how to reach you is factual, so under the Spam Act it is generally a designated message: it must identify your business but does not need consent or an unsubscribe. Add a special offer or promotion and it becomes commercial, so keep the text factual.

The Spam Act 2003 (Schedule 1, clause 2) covers messages of no more than factual information. The ACMA says any promotional content makes a message commercial, and commercial messages need consent, accurate sender details and an unsubscribe honoured within 5 working days. Penalties are real: Lululemon paid $702,900 in 2026 for emails without an unsubscribe.

Follow-up texts that promote your services, rather than replying to the caller's own enquiry, need the person's consent. Get legal advice on your wording if you are unsure.

Do I need to register my SMS sender ID?

Only if your texts show your business name instead of a phone number. From 1 July 2026, branded sender IDs must be on the ACMA's SMS Sender ID Register, or they show as Unverified and are grouped with other unverified messages. Texts sent from a phone number need no registration.

Registration is done through your telco or message provider, and your ABN details must be current on the Australian Business Register (ACMA).

What should lead follow-up look like after the first text?

A short, polite sequence that stops as soon as the person replies or books. For example: the instant text, a check-in the next day, and a final note a few days later. Every message should be useful, name your business and make it easy to book or say no thanks.

Common questions

  • How fast does the missed call text go out?

Within seconds. LYD Pest Control states within 60 seconds, with a booking link.

  • Will it work with my existing business number?

That depends on your phone setup. Bring your carrier and number type to the discovery call and we will confirm how it connects.

  • Does a missed call text need an unsubscribe?

A purely factual reply generally does not, but it must identify your business. Promotional follow-ups need consent and an unsubscribe.

  • Do I need to register my sender ID?

Only if your texts display your business name. Texts sent from a phone number do not need registration.

  • How long does setup take?

Within 7 working days of receiving your onboarding details.
